Job Description



Purpose of Position:

Why does the job exist?

The purpose of this position is to accurately process payment vouchers, operate transfers, and journal vouchers and travel reimbursements. This position processes travel advances and various financial documents, and/or financial activity to ensure that fiscal and administrative operations are carried out accurately and in compliance with Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) purchasing regulations and State Procurement Code. This position will act as the Senior Accounts Payable Specialist tasked with advanced accounts payable functions.



How does it get done?

This position compiles payment packets, audits financial documents from start to end, prepares operating transfers, and journal vouchers on behalf of the eight division within the Taxation and Revenue Department (TRD).


Who are the customers?

This position serves staff in the eight Divisions within the Taxation and Revenue Department.



The Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate has experience in:



+ Working with the State Human Resources Accounting Reporting (SHARE)accounting system

+ Working with Modeling Accounting Practices

+ Working with DFA policies

+ Working with State Purchasing Division Policies

+ Working with Excel and Microsoft Word (pivot tables and formulas)

+ Working with the State of New Mexico travel reimbursement process








Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.



This position is a Pay Band 60.

Minimum Qualifications




Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing or Business Administration and two (2) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance and/or budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.




Employment Requirements:

Must be current with all tax reporting/payments. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Must be current with all tax reporting/payment. Employment is subject to post offer pre-employment criminal background check to include fingerprint checks and is conditional pending results. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some travel is required.
