Job Description



What does the job do?

This position will be responsible for gathering, compiling, analyzing, researching, extrapolating, and synthesizing information from the New Mexico Higher Education Department's (NMHED) data systems. The information derived from this data will be used and synthesized to drive key business operations, conduct financial and policy planning and address statutory responsibilities for higher education which will include: the funding formula, financial aid, dual credit, students success indicators, and performance and accountability reports. The incumbent will provide the necessary data and information to determine and recommend how best to prepare our students to favorably complete and succeed in New Mexico's labor market.


How does the job get done?

The incumbent will conduct bill analysis for NM Legislature sessions; database management and queries; obtain and create reports for NM Higher Education Department by running queries and analysis in excel. Incumbent will create and produce reports for internal (NMHED) and external (NM Governor's Office, State Higher Education Executive Officers Association, independent researchers, et. al.) requestors; obtain information from each of the public institutions of higher education within New Mexico and report said information as necessary. The incumbent will also be the primary point of contact (telephone and email) for NMHED website, issues with data submission from institutions of higher education in NM, as well as other entities external to NMHED.

Internal and external stakeholders, including other state agencies, federal government, community and national organizations, as well as researchers from New Mexico's (and other states') institutions of higher education.


Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate has experience in the following:



+ Developing and maintaining data collection/reporting systems.

+ Ability to compile data, manipulate large datasets and prepare reports and presentations.

+ Technical proficiency with MS Office application including Excel and software packages with experience in data visualization.

+ Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills.

+ Strong interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to establish collaborative relationships with various stakeholders.








Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.



This position is a Pay Band 70.

Minimum Qualifications




Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience including research, statistics, computer science, data analysis, accounting, auditing, finance, economics, business, public administration, budgeting, management and/or systems analysis. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.



Employment Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
