Purpose of Position:

This position will inform and educate Spanish speaking clients regarding health equity and other health related issues through translated Department of Health materials. The position will also educate Department of Health program areas on formatting of, structuring of, and assurance of culturally meaningful and linguistically appropriate documents. The position will provide Spanish translation services for written documents and interpretation services upon request for the Department of Health. The position may conduct a variety of Spanish classes to staff to improve staff's ability to meet the linguistic needs of clients that receive services from the Department. The position will participate in other Office of Health Equity activities as assigned. Certification as a translator or interpreter is preferred.

This position is a Pay Band 70.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology and/or Family Studies/Services and four (4) or more years of any combination of experience including working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health and/or health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
