Job Description



Purpose of Position:

Why does the job exist?

The Special Agent will uphold and enforce statutory requirements as outlined in the Gaming Control Act, the Bingo and Raffle Act and the New Mexico Criminal Code that occur on licensed gaming premises or affect the gaming industry within the state.


How does it get done?

The position will liaison with other divisions of the agency on a routine basis for information sharing and to aid with the overall regulation and compliance. This position involves accurately interpreting, summarizing, analyzing, and organizing accounting data from complex gaming transactions and vault counts during regular inspection of licensees. The position will prepare reports for agency management review and present to the Board. This position independently conducts investigations including compliance, background, financial, criminal, forensic and internal affairs in support of the Board statewide gaming control efforts.


Who are the customers?

New Mexico Gaming and Bingo and Raffle Licensee's, distributors and manufacturers licensed by the State of New Mexico.

+ Presenting findings, reports or reports to groups, peers, supervisors, managers, boards or elected bodies.

+ Testifying in court regarding an investigation you conducted.

+ Reviewing and analyzing financial documents.

+ Enforcing rules and regulations.

+ Conducting administrative or criminal investigations.







This position is a Pay Band 70.


Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

Minimum Qualifications




Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Science, Political Science or other related field and four (4) years of experience in law enforcement, criminal and/or white collar or economic/financial fraud investigations. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.Must be a New Mexico Certified and Commissioned Law Enforcement Officer (Police Officer), or be eligible for Certification by Waiver, subject to the provisions of Chapter 29, Article 1 NMSA 1978, as set forth in 29-7-6 NMSA 1978, 29-7-10 NMSA 1978 and 10.29.6 NMAC, and as specifically enacted in statute, as established by the New Mexico Legislature, conferring statutory authority upon an agency to appoint, employ and commission Police Officers pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 29 NMSA 1978 or pursuant to NMSA 1978, 60-13-9(G), 70-5-20 and 60-14-4(T).



Employment Requirements:

Must maintain a valid Driver's License, complete Defensive Driving Training course and obtain a defensive driving certification within 30 days of employment. This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules, and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of a post offer pre-employment physical and is subject to a criminal background check, and is conditional pending results of a criminal background check. Must be a citizen of the United States; be twenty-one (21) years of age or older; be of good moral character and not have been convicted by a court of this state, any other state or the United States of a felony offense, or any misdemeanor conviction related to controlled substances, theft, moral turpitude, fraud, larceny, or crimes of violence, or have been convicted of any crime associated with domestic violence, DUI conviction within the last five years, or a substantial accumulation of driving violations, indicating disregard for rules and regulations, or use or possess illegal narcotics or controlled substances.
