Job Description



Why does the job exist?

The Trainer and Development Specialist will facilitate consultation services and oversight to improve safety and reduce costs by assisting state entities in the implementation of holistic loss prevention and control training and programs to mitigate preventable exposures. The position will be responsible for design, delivery, and evaluation of training in the following areas: safety and health, office and general ergonomics, life safety code, emergency evacuation, workers' compensation, and employment related civil rights. The Trainer and Development Specialist will facilitate collaborative relationships statewide, enhancing communication and offering subject matter expert support.


How does it get done?

The Training and Development Specialist utilizes entities loss control analysis to make program recommendations and develop training. The Trainer provides customized training and organizational development to target entity specific needs.


Who are the customers?

State Employees, Local Public Bodies, Public Schools and Institutions of Higher Education. These covered entities are diverse in their composition and concerns, and present new challenges in an ever-changing risk environment; they also present opportunities for creative strategies and leveraging of existing resources.


The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in program development, design and delivery; oversight of programs that impact multiple agencies; and facilitating meetings with all levels of management. Will conduct research and provide an analysis of information. The Trainer is able to work with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.


This position is a Pay Band 65.

Minimum Qualifications





Bachelor's Degree in any field and two (2) years of experience in training, staff development, designing courses, and/or producing instructional aids/materials. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.



Employment Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some travel may be required. Occasionally work extra hours, on weekends and holidays.
